Crafting Beautiful Homes, Beyond Expectations

“We need to take into account the outside environment, to create the best inside environment.”

Warm, Dry, Healthy Homes, Starts with Great Design

I believe everyone deserves the best possible living environment they’re able to achieve. With this in mind there needs to be an holistic approach to the design.

This is at the core of what I do, and the main reason I am an architectural designer.

Below is a part of a video series that was made by the Asthma Society NZ. Go to thier YouTube Channel for more: https://www.youtube.com/@asthmanewzealand3181

My Philosophy

In my 20+ years as an architectural designer I’ve designed and renovated hundreds of homes. I like to combine a practical knowledge with architectural design. You CAN have a beautiful home that’s a joy to live in AND cheap to run.

The Process

A lot of people are unsure about what goes into an architectural design. The process is a detailed, but very fulfilling one… for me and for you! Here you can find out about the whole process we go through, step-by-step, to bring your dream to life.

Sun Study

Part of the holistic approach to house design is to consider how the sun is going to influence the home at different times of the year. With a 3D concept, we use the computer to position the home and then create a video to analyse the sun path.

About Me

I’ve been a residential architectural designer for over 20 years and in that time I’ve designed and renovated hundreds of domestic homes. When I’m asked, what qualifications I have, I say, ‘that I been to the university of life with a degree in continual learning’. The one thing about this career is that you never stop learning. I knew early on that the vast majority of the houses design in NZ were of poor quality. And I was going to make sure that every one of the designs, I was involved with, was not going to be one of those, ‘code built houses’. In some way, each one had to be better than code. To the point now, I couldn’t tell you off the top of my head what minimum standard building codes are. So, over the years I’ve done Building Biology courses, introductory course on Passive Haus (Passive House), Living Building Challenge, professional development with ADNZ, read research papers, professional books and just talked with like minded professionals.
